Oase de mamifere din templul lui Jupiter Dolichenus de la Porolissum. Studiu arheozoologic

  • Subiect: MAMALIAN BONES FROM THE TEMPLE OF JUPITER DOLICHENUS, POROLISSUM ARCHAEOZOOLOGICAL STUDY The present archaeozoological study is based on the domestic bones discovered during the archaeological excavations in the temple of Jupiter Dolichenus in the Roman military vicus from Porolissum. 1325 bone fragments have been analysed, from which 429 have been attributed to large ruminants, 256 to ovicaprins, 101 to suins, 34 to equides, 4 to canides, 18 to poultry and 449 fragments remained undetermined. The identified species are mostly domestic: cattle, swine, sheep, goat, horse, dog; while the wild species (wild ox, deer, roebuck, wild boar) are weackly represented. Numerically as well as from the viewpoint of the minimal number of estimated individuals the bovines predominate whose estimated size is cca 120 cm for 2,5-3 years age group. The identified ovicaprines measure 65-73 cm, age above 1,5 year. The swine are mast probably part of a rather primitive population, which reached its ideal weight at the age of 1,5-2 year. The possible estimated size for one single individual is between 70-72 cm. Data referring to the equines are very few, so no possible size could be calculated. The analysis of the dog bones indicates several morphological types, one single individual being identified with brahimel characteristics.
