Despre datarea ansamblului arheologic de la Pietroasa/Pietroasele, judeţul Buzău. Studiu preliminar

  • Subiect: Based on the archaeological materials and information that Alexandru Odobescu gathered in 1866, he dated the Roman fortification in Pietroasa/Pietroasele back to the 4th century AD. This dating has long been controversial and has only been confirmed following systematic research starting 1973 and carried on until today. The archaeological materials uncovered inside the castrum, at the hipocaustum aedificium, in cemeteries 1, 2, 3 and 4, inside the civilian settlement – materials such as ceramics, objects made of burnt clay, stag bone and horns, iron or bronze, the coins uncovered inside the castrum and in the 2nd cemetery – all of these date from the 4th century and are proof/confirm the building, existance and functioning of the archaeological ensemble at Pietroasa/Pietroasele under Constantin the Great (306-337) and his succesors, up until Valens (364 – 378).
