Cavalerul trac cu lira în Dacia Romană

  • Subiect: The Thracian Rider with Lyre in Roman Dacia This study deals with an iconographic type of Thracian Rider common to the South-Danubian area, but also known in Dacia for some pieces. The Dacian pieces are small ex-votos found out in Turda, Alba Iulia, Bolduţ and a large dimensioned relief found out in Gilău. The similitudes the last one has to the South-Danubian pieces allow us to identify the Thracian barbarian god as an Apollo under the figure of that Thracian Rider. This is the result of the interpretatio Thracica, phenomenon applied to the Greek - roman god. ln the Grecian inscriptions this god is known as Apollo whit Thracian epithets: Aulousadenus, Aulousada and Aulouzenus. In the roman inscriptions it is known as Dominus Rincaleus. If we analyze the Gilăuîs relief having in mind elements of Greek mythology we can explain the presence of several heterogeneous elements on the same relief such as: the crow, the lyre and the fallen enemy.
