Populaţia comitatului Crasna în lumina unor conscripţii din 1720

  • Subiect: The Population of Crasna Country in the Light of the Year 1720 Conscriptions This article discusses the way the author determined the number of the inhabitants of the county of Crasna based on new documents, namely on the conscriptions of people allowed to buy salt from salt mines. These conscriptions recorded the social categories that is the family head of each category, the number of children and the number of cattle. According to the salt conscription from June 1720 and from July 1720 (a taxation conscription) and also from September 1721 the author established that the number of population from Crasna County in 1720 was over 10.000 with an average of 4 persons in each family. According to June 1720 conscription social structure of the above mentioned county's population was: 54,240/o serfs, 31,24% free peasants (the Rumanian term for this category of peasant is jeler - inquilines), 8,250% nobles with one estate, 3,51% nobles with more estates and 2,700/o priests and grammar school teachers. Based on the number of cattle the author analyzed the economic differentiation within each social category - (Table No. 3).
