Reprezentarea Fecioarei Maria cu Pruncul pe sigiliile oraşului Bucureşti - conturarea arhetipului -

  • Subiect: The representation of the Holy Virgin Mary with the Child on the seals of Bucharest - a sketch of the architype - This study aims at reconstructing the iconographic archetype of the Virgin Mary with the Child (Maria Theotokos) on the basis of three hermeneutic aspects: the descriptive, the mystic, and the symbolistic significances. ln order to reconstruct the canonic corpus of the icon of the Virgin Mary with the Chi/d, a reference to the New testament and the apocrypha texts is required. The way the Virgin is represented hints at the ontology in the relation between the individual person and the Divinity, which is a longstanding tradition in the patristic texts (the difference between the individual and the person). The decisions of the various Church Councils have sustained the development of the cult of the Virgin Mary with the Child. During Constantin Brâncoveanu's rule (1688-1714), the image of the Virgin Mary with the Child become part of the coat of arms of Bucharest.
