Studiul resturilor de faună descoperite în situl de la Verbiţa (cultura Verbicioara, bronzul mijlociu)

  • Subiect: The Study of the Rest of the Fauna Discovered in the Site from Verbiţa (Verbicioara Culture, the Middle Age of Bronze) Archaeozoological remains from Verbiţa, Dolj Department dated in Middle Bronze Age (Verbicioara Culture) have been studied. The fauna material contains 236 fragments of which 201 have been determined to gender and species and other 32 mammal fragments for which the species could not be established due to their fragmentary status. Table I includes the repartition on species and for mammals only the presentation of bony fragments too. For each species, a morphoscopic and biometrical study was made (see table I-II) and their frequency and economical weight both as fragments and as individuals were established (see table 2-4). Taking into consideration the importance for the animal economy of the two non- mammal species as well as the other Mammal species we may say that the Lamellibranchiata and Fish should not be taken into consideration as the Mammals used to cover the needs of the inhabitants. Animal breeding, about six species as it comes from the tables, was a first rank occupation, almost all of them being polyvalent. Although of secondary importance, hunting through the four Artiodactyla species used to have a well circumscribed status. In this paper, we also describe the environment characteristics in the site's vicinity, based on the determined species and their frequency.
