Şcoala de pictură pe sticlă nord-transilvăneană

  • Subiect: The north transylvanian glass painting school. After writing a short history about the existence of some important glass making manufactures în Transylvania, dating back iin the XVII-th century, the autors of this text presented the north-transylvanian painting school of glass icons and the influences which it had on the other centers în South-Transylvania. The peasant craftsmen from the workshop of Nicula, considered to be, by a few specialists, the oldest center of painting on glass, produced real masterpieces. The Nicula icons on glass, with small sizes, can be recognized by their particular chromatics, a native drawing, of great graphicalness, the shapes are oversimplified up to the esehtial lines. The themes painted by the Nicula glass painters, influenced at the begining by the Bohemian paintings on glass, include scenes representing the Holy Virgin and Christ and the protector saints. The importance of Nicula painters lies not only in their own creations, but also iin the influence on the other workshops of painting on glass. Another part refers to the icons of glass painted by the craftsmen from the Făgăraş Country, insisting on the differences between these two workshops.
