De la Marele Orient al Franţei în colecţia Muzeului Judeţean Argeş via Câmpulung

  • Subiect: From the Great Orient of France in the Collection of the Argeş County Museum via Câmpulung The article presents a exhibit from the history permanent exhibition of the Argeş County Museum, donated in 1974 by the Family Simion from Câmpulung. It was for a long time considered to be an allegorical representation of the 1848 Revolution. In reality, it is a Masonic effigy, having an elaborated symbology that refers to The Great Orient of France. The two important families of Argeş, Golescu & Brătianu, had contacts with this strong Masonic Lodge or with some others subordinated to it. It is possible that this effigy belonged to one of the two families. The author believes it belonged to the Golescu Family, namely to Alexandru G. Golescu Negru (Arăpilă) (1819-1881), an important political personality of his times and a Freemason.
