Institute, societăţi şi asociaţii economice cu scopuri politice şi naţional culturale în nord-vestul României (1849-1918)

  • Subiect: Economic Establishments, Societies and Associations Having Political, National and Cultural Purposes in the Northwestern Romanian (1849-1918) The author of the study shows the conditions in which these establishments were created in the North-West of Transylvania, in the regions which were then incorporated in the Austro-Hungarian Empire (Maramureş, Sătmar, Sălaj). These establishments had both economic and cultural aims; they supported different schools, churches, newspapers and periodicals or granted scholarships for deserving pupils and students. In the period the paper refers to (1849-1918) in the North-West of Romania there were more than fifty economic establishments, societies and associations including banks, too, but of which about twenty had more important part in the country's political, economic and cultural life. Among these mention is made of: a. the joint-stock companies Silvania from Şimleul Silvaniei (1887), Sătmăreana, from Seini (1892), Rîureana from Copalnic Mănăştur (1899), Chioreana from Şomcuta Mare (1901), Codreana from Băseşti (1905); b. saving and credit banks: Arina from Sanislău (1906), Aurora from Baia Mare (1906) Lăpuşana from Lăpuşul unguresc (Tirgu Lăpuş today) (1907), Maramureşana from Sighetul Marmaţiei (1910). In the second part of the paper the author shows how these establishments supported the cultural movement of the Romanian population from the NorthWestern part of the country in the given period. In this way mention is roade of the Silvania joint stock company which supported a school for girls in Şimleul Silvaniei, the Rureana saving and credit bank and Persieu credit bank from Chiuzbaia which supported different museums, periodicals and schools. The paper concludes that these modest but extremely important Romanian kanks had a great contribution to the functioning of certain schools, libraries, museums, to the printing of different textbooks, scientific works, newspapers and facilitated the distribution of the newspapers among the beneficiary.
