Subiect: The image of the peasant woman in the Roman ian painting at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century
During the last decades of the nineteenth and in the beginning of the twentieth century the Romanian artistic creation abounded in images of peasant women dressed in decorated costumes, gracefully nursing their children as well as performing domestic and agrarian activities. Even if around 1910 a new generation of artists tried to impose more realistic depictions, the latter continued to idealize the countryside, including women's appearance and their roles in the rural household and economy.
