Ştefan cel Mare în conştiinţa românilor din Transilvania

  • Subiect: STEPHEN THE GREAT IN THE CONSCIENCE OF THE ROMANIANS IN TRANSYLVANIA „The historical significance of Stephen the Great" personality has passed beyond the limits of his time, of Moldavia and even of the entire national history of all Romanians, occupying an outstanding place in the universal history of his epoch and leaving profound traces în the conscience of posterity. These traces gained an ever increasing importance with the development of the Romanian society în the beginning of the modern era. In Transylvania they had more profound, specific characteristics. The text of the present paper represents a quite concentrated synthesis of an ampler study which is to be published; it includes data concerning the presence of Stephen the Great in the works of the coryphaei of the cultural current known under the name of „Şcoala Ardeleană'' (Transylvanian School) - Samuil Micu, Petru Maior, Gheorghe Şincai and others, in the Romanian Transylvanian journalism since its very beginning, during the 1848 Romanian revolution in Transylvania, in a series or history works. The celebration, in 1871, of the 400th anniversary of the setting of Putna Monastery and Romania Independence War (1877-1878) was also an opportunity for significant Transylvanian attendance and manifestations dedicated to honouring the memory of the great Romanian prince.
