  • Subiect: Mihai Antonescu (1904-1946) was a remarkable teacher at the Law Faculty of Bucharest University, a well-known law specialist, and, since, September 6, 1940, when he entered the Government led by Marshall Ion Antonescu, a brave and perseverent defender of the national Interests and dignity. Talking about Romania's participation to the war started by Germany against U.R.S.S., on June 22, 1941, Mihai Antonescu stated that this decision was taken because of the wish to free Basarabia, North Bucovina and Herţa County, occupied ]n 1940 by the Soviet Union. Our country - he said - has not led in the East an aggression and imperialist war, but a war of holly defense of our honour and rights. As early as 1942 he was concerned with Romania's place and role in organizing after - war Europe. The final purpose was that the end of the war should find us prepared to sustain our national interests. Mihai Antonescu says that after - war Europe "can only be a continent where the community of thought and reconsidering the antagonisms may build a free family of nations that are aware of their responsability". He could not see the result of these Ideas which are still very important now-a-days. Condemned to death within the trial of sad memory, he was executed on June 1, 1946.
