Obiceiuri populare româneşti oglindite în vechi calendare ardeleneşti

  • Subiect: Romanian Folk Traditional Mirrored in Old Transylvanian Calendars The calendars represent an extremely interesting category among the periodicals, for a· long time being these publications which have, the „environment-reader" connection by furnishing news, novelties, curiosities, practical advice. "The Calendar for the God's year... devised for the grades and climate of the Principate of Transylvania and other neighboring countries published: for the first time, in Sibiu, in 1793 had a lung existanee being in the readers' interest for 119 years (1792-1911, bringing „a little contribution" to an increase of reading among the Romanians, to a useful passing of time by learning necessary things for their activity" - as it is stated in the jubilee number 100. The folk traditions hold an important part among the information given by the calendar, these traditions being presented in an interesting parallel between „the ancient Romans and the present-day Romanians (the 19th century), under lying permanently the close connection between the two cultures. We quote the following titles: „On certain traditions seen at the Romans' marriage also used by the Romanians especially in Transyivania; „On the Romans marriage ceremonies", titles which represent the subject of our present communication. We remark the deep feeling of respect for the Roman origin of the Romanian people, initiated by „Şcoala Ardeleană", feeling which defines the whole 19th century Romanian society. Long before the appearance of the two works of reference in ethnology „The Romanian wedding ceremony" written by Elena Sevastos in 1889 and Simion Florea Marian in 1890, these Calendars prove the great interest in collecting and preserving folk traditions. Even now the old calendars remain interesting sources of documentation for the ethnologists.
