Memoria bibliotecii Astra: Documente ale Unirii

  • Subiect: The Memory of Astra Library: Documents of the Union Among the written testimonies in the Special Documents Department of ASTRA Library, several of those in the history section are concerned with the Union of Transylvania to Romania which took place on December 1st, 1918. The Ietter sent from Vienna by Iuliu MANIU, the president of the Romanian National Committee (founded on October 31, 1918) to Horia PETRA-PETRESCU, deals with General Ioan BOERIU's appointment as president of the newly-founded Romanian Military Senate. At that time. Horia PETRA-PETRESCU was in Prague. He was to become the president of the Society for a Romanian Theatre, and, later on, a librarian at ASTRA, as his father had been before him. In the same department there are three photography of General Ioan BOERIU. Two of them were taken in Vienna, and the third at Sibiu. On the back of the latter there is an autographed dedication as well as the date when it was offered. Another letter was sent from Iaşi by Dr. Nicolae BALAN (the future Metropolitan Bishop) to Vasile GOLDIŞ. The document recounts the author's trip from Sibiu to Iaşi in full detail, as well as the preparations for the Union. The author also presents the plan he had devised for the great historical event. These are but a few tokens for the remembrance, now, at the anniversary of our Union, of the grandeur of a historical act which could not but be accomplished.
