Simion Bărnuţiu şi preocupările sale umanistice

  • Subiect: Simion Bărnuţiu and His Humanistic Concerns Simion Bărnuţiu can be considered to be a complex personality including in the same person the publicist, the social-political thinker, the philosopher and the fighter for the development of education. Still, we cannot say that he avoided the humanistic fields in the activity. In the present study we try to underline the humanistic concerns of Simion Bărnuţiu's, among which a favorite place is taken by those concerned with language (reflected in the letter-exchange between celebrated professors of the time, but also in his articles in which he supports the unity of the Romanian nation - expressed by the unity of language). He pleaded for the Roman origin in the language and in spite of the Latin exaggeration, he still supports advanced ideas concerning the link between language-nationality, national culture - national freedom all referring to the improvement of language. Simion Bărnuţiu had firm beliefs concerning the creative power of the Romanian people. Even since 1853 he foresaw the appearance of a genius able to change thoroughly both poetry and language. This proved to be true as Eminescu got rid of the old poetic forms and linguistic borders. He not only created a form of poetry that is not surpassed even today but the literary Romanian language he used is the same with the language we use today.
