Săpăturile arheologice din punctul "Islaz", sat Polocin, comuna Pogoneşti, campania 2009

  • Subiect: In 2009, „Vasile Parvan” Museum Barlad in association with the „Moldavian National Museum of Archeologie and History” and with the „Cultural Heritage Institute of Moldovia Republic” have organized an archeological research campaign. This research took place in a necropolis dating back from the 4th century after Christ, at Islaz, Polocin village, Pogonesti, Vaslui county. The campaign was made under a project financed with european funds. The campaign had as objectif to extend the research on the east side of the necropolis, and therefore three large sections have been made. Three more inhumation graves have been found, in this area and it has been established, based on inventory, that they had dated back from the 4th century, making the number of graves to increase to 78. The first two graves discovered had been disturbed, an adult (M 77) and a child ones (M 78), with a N-S position and another adult grave, this time non-disturbed (M76) with a V-E position. The inventory that has been made shows that the graves containted pottery, and various objects made from glass, or metal. The discovery of a medieval house from XVII-XVIII century has been the surprise of this campaign. Eventhough the artifacts that were found hadn't been either various or too many, the discovery kept being important, because it could be a proof of an ancient medieval settlement or even of the medieval hearth of Polocin village. This settlement was found over the grave M 76.
