  • Subiect: The Traditional Household on Holiday As a Dionysian manifestation any celebration needs a space, nonspecialized but which can change into a background, a scenery. The present paper tries to describe the preparation of such scenery, compulsory for carrying on a festive celebration. In rural areas the preparations for such a festivity include the adornment of the house the yard and the garden. The paper also surveys some of the technics for turning into account such spaces destined for celebrations. The whole series of manifestations performed on such festive days: singing carols, spreading holy water in the house and in the garden, adorning the windows, doors and gates with plants that are considered to bring luck, the circling of the house, the smearing of exists with garlic or lavage, the keeping of the festivity according to folk tradition, into a world of magic and myth, where people try to remake the primary order of the universe and they try to communicate with mysterious forces. Due to its contributions, the traditional peasant household can perfectly be adapted to the changes occasioned by the festive atmosphere - so the scenery for a festivity is built both through opposition and compensation to the everyday, the real, the usual, giving multiple possibilities for man to manifest himself, to celebrate, to change the mysteries of life into infinite beliefs, superstitions and magic practices.
