  • Subiect: An Italian Best-Seller from the end of the 17th Century on the Towns and Castles from Banat and Western Transylvania The 17th century author Ercole Scala was literate affiliated to the Italian family d'Este. It is possible that his name was a literary pseudonym, ant the supposed noble title an imposture. Nevertheless one of his books, L'Ungheria compendiata, printed in no less than three editions between 1685 and 1687, had an important role in stimulating the interest of the Italian public opinion for the politica! and ethnic realities from Central and Eastern Europe at the end of the 17th century.
