• Subiect: Alexandru Vaida-Voevod between Contestation, Ignorance and Reconsideration (1872-1950) Alexandru Vaida Voevod was one of the leaders of the Transylvanian Romanians' struggle for national emancipation during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Born in 1872 in the village of Colpret, near Dej, in a family with a long tradition in the battle for national rights, Alexandru Vaida Voevod stood out as a combative, intransigent personality in endorsing the Romanians' rights, as early as bis student years in Vienna. Together with A. C. Popovici, bis spiritual friend and mentor, he took part in drafting the « Replica » newspaper (1892) and in the trial of the famous memorandum promoters in Cluj, 1894.
