  • Subiect: THE CONTRIBUTION OF ASTRA AT THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE CENTENNIAL OF THE BffiTH OF AVRAM IANCU (1924) After the Great Union, in 1918, the idea of honoring Avram Iancu's memory became possible. Beginning with 1921, Astra started to develop some programs, as was the raising of Avram Iancu's statue in Cluj, and the founding of a museum in his former house in Vidra de Sus. These programs were supposed to be finalized and inaugurated in 1922, at the anniversary of the centennial of the death of Avram Iancu. For objective reasons - difficulty of collecting museum specimens, the works at the Cluj cathedral - the unveiling of the statue, respectively the inauguration of the museum were postponed for 1924, for the centennial of the birth of the 1848 hero. At the occasion of the anniversary from 1924, the respective programs were finalized, moreover, the area around Avram Iancu's grave was systematized, and the commemorative plaque from the house where Avram Iancu passed away, as well as his bust was erected in Baia de Criş. At the ceremonies from Ţebea, Câmpeni, Vidra de Sus, Muntele Găina and Cluj King Ferdinand and The Queen took part, as well as government members, including the prime minister Ionel Brătianu, military leaders, members of the leadership of Astra headed by president Vasile Goldiş. Astra organized all the programs connected with the anniversary of the centennial of the birth of Avram Iancu. With the effort of its leaders, the centennial was the most grandiose amongst the celebrations of the hero undergone until now.
