Cercetarea materialului arheologic. Radiografierea

  • Subiect: THE STUDY OF ARCHEOLOGICAL METAL. THE RADIOGRAPHY The paper underlines the importance of the radiography in the research of the archeological metal objects. After introduction on the specific of the investigation of metallic artifacts, the paper gives general information about the radiography used in this purpose. Two fragments of swords are presented to sustain the idea. The first case is about a sword (see fig. 1-2) from Oradeas Fortress. The sword made out of iron has a high level of mineralization. The radiography shows us a sheath mineralized and unitary with the blade. The second fragment, was from a sword of XI century, Viking type. A conservation was made before 1970 without other information. The radiography (fig. 4) shows us the manner of the manufacturing of the hilt and the blade (two plates of iron, one surrounding the other. As a conclusion, the radiography is important on investigation of mineralized metal artifacts.
