O piesă de excepţie din colecţia Muzeului judeţean Satu Mare

  • Subiect: This work's goal is to make known a cup with lid, which we consider that is one of the most valuable objects from Satu Mare's silver ware collection. Without any craftsman seal (which was removed as a result of inadequate and repealed restorations), proceeding from analogies in special literature and from catalogues, we do consider that the piece was manufactured in XVll-th century by a silversmith from Nurnberg. Both the cup and the lid represent an ensemble of Christian symbols, so meaningful in whole Middle Ages. But with this concise presentation the theme is far from being finished because it requires thorough researches in order to establish the authorship of this beautiful piece made of valuable metal.
