  • Subiect: Documents concerning the Activity of „Astra” in Sălaj County (1865-1878) The documents we have studied belong to the,,ASTRA" fund from The State Archive from Sibiu and „Ioan Ardeleanu Senior" from The State Archive from Sălaj. The documents bring information about the Sălaj people's commitment in the activity of the Transylvanian Association for Romanian Literature and the Culturalization of the Romanians in its early existence. The activity of the Salaj Association during 1862-1878 was remarked, first of all, for concrete actions which were meant to -involve a great number of common and helping members from all social categories. The taxes collected from them as well as the donations and the money collects, and the wills have increased the material property of the Romanian Association and Academy. The foundation of the Salaj Department in 1870 (XI) offered the organizing frame og the development of some Romanian national and cultural activity in the historical Salaj. The annual meetings of the department held in different places, gathered members from the Association in the territory that could share with the rural papulation the aims and the cultural, social, and national programmers for which the association was pleading. The documents catch actioning directions in: the stipending of the students, the spreading of some Romani a publication, the attempt of founding a library at the department/s residence as well as of a fundament for the support of the poor pupils to learn a job, the deposit of some money for the creation of a scholar fund in Simleu, giving lectures, and the building of the memorial of Simion Barnutiu in Bocşa. As a result of the activity carried on by the Salaj Department, eight years after its foundation, „The Transylvanian Association for The Romanian Literature and The Culturalization of the Romanians" decided the organization of the General Meeting in the year 1878 for the first time in Simleu Silvaniei. ` Therefore, during these years the efforts were organizatorically concentrated to the assurance of the material devises and ta the popularization of the new associations name to be able to pass further to the fulfilment of the foreseen aims of the statute.
