Prezenţa unor arnăuţi eterişti la Câmpulung în primăvara anului 1821

  • Subiect: The Presence of Some Hetaerist Mercenaries in Câmpulung in the Spring of 1821 The events of 1821 were important for Câmpulung. Firstly the town was under the Hetaerists’ occupation and then under the Ottomans’ occupation. In the spring of 1821 Alexandru Ipsilanti the leader of the Greek Hetaerism appointed an Albanian named Constantin Eliiat (Eliadi) as a subprefect of Câmpulung. He was the leader of a group of Cossacks and Albanian Hetaerists who had to defend the Rucăr-Bran Mountain Pass so that Alexandru Ipsilanti and his Hetaerists should had escape passing it in case of danger. Alexandru Ipsilanti considered Câmpulung a very important place because of its geostrategic position. Tudor Vladimirescu passed through Câmpulung on his way to Târgovişte on the 22-nd of May. He was imprisoned by Iordache Olimpiotul, one of Ipsilanti’s people. The leader of the Hetaerists escaped in Transylvania crossing this town. The town was occupied by the Turks in September 1822. An agha and 50 Turkish soldiers were sent in the town to maintain the order.
