  • Subiect: The return to tradition, an old European trend, has reached Romania throughout the 19th century, as part of the shift from the Oriental models towards the Occidental values and civilization. A series of noted personalities of the time, politicians, artists, developed esthetic theories in favor of the return to tradition, a tendency also sustained by the Romanian Orthodox Church. After the union of the Romanian provinces, along with the Orthodox Church values, the folk component started being taken into consideration, for the elaboration of a neo-Romanian artistic style.
