Localizarea bătăliei de la Posada

  • Subiect: The Localisation of The Battle from Posada The present paper discusses about the localisation of the battle from 1330 known in the Romanian historiography as the Battle from Posada. Analyzing the description of the events in the springs of the time by comparison to the elements of relief, the author considers the placing of the battle in the Argeş area as being incorrect and sustains that the Hungarian disaster happened in the area situated between Mehadia and southern Caransebeş. The battle lasted for a long period of time (9-12 November 1330), fact that clearly indicates that it took place in a narrow path, a place where the army from the valley was forced to penetrate the defence of the enemy at any cost. The Hungarian army did not succeed and the king Charles Robert d’Anjou barely escaped.
