Alaiuri domneşti

  • Subiect: The rich feudal internal and external documents and the descriptions left by foreign travelers (messengers, couriers, merchants, missionaries) who have wondered through the Romanian area for three centuries, during the feudal age, left us rich information’s about the componence of the princely corteges. Parades accompanied the suites, in Wallachia and Moldavia as well, on occasion of several (major events, such as the enthronement of a new ruler or various religious feasts. The present paper deals with corteges linked to investiture ceremonies in Moldavia and Wallachia, and with corteges organized in other different circumstances: holidays like Christmas, the Epiphany, the Ascension, processions dedicated to the Holy Emperors, by the Metropolitan Orthodox Church, parades at fairs, organized throughout the Pantelimon outskirts; least, but not least, the procession organized in honor of the Holy Trinity by the priests of the Radu Vodă church in Bucharest. The conclusion was drawn that, throughout the Middle Ages, and in spite of all vicissitudes, the people have found time and resources for ceremonies, be they religious or not, finding occasions for piety and also for entertainment.
