  • Subiect: ENHANCEMENT AND PROTECTION OF THE MEDICAL INFORMATION RESOURCES OF PATRIMONY THROUGH DIGITIZATION Digitization means selection, conversion and dissemination of the information in electronic format which is standardized, organized and available at request from a common system. The protection of the collections of medical old book existent at the library of TRANSILVANIA University of Braşov has lead to a common project of research and experimentation between the researchers of the Faculty of Medicine and the librarians. Through the digital revolution, there became possible bringing together medical old documents, there increasing their visibility and the access to them. The paper submits the technical research with respect to the scanning format and to the selection of the medical documents undergoing the scanning process, the method of compression and storage of the information in a variety of images and files. The paper integrates itself in the priority field of the automation technologies and of the communications. The team sets out to generate and to optimize an automated system of acquisition, storage, processing, accessing and cataloguing of all types of documents existent in the collections of the university libraries, with a view to generating online bibliographies upon different fields of specialization. The digitization of traditional documents, having as purpose the conservation, the preservation of the collections and the user's easy access to the information stands for a procedure already used in all libraries throughout the world.
