Contribuţii ale laboratorului restaurare textile la realizarea restaurării şi conservării obiectelor din colecţiile Muzeului Astra

  • Subiect: Contributions of the textiles restoration laboratory to the fulfilling of the restoration and preservation of the objects, belonging to the collections of The ASTRA Museum The activity of restoration-preservation is an indispensable component of the museum, in order to put the patrimony into account. The textiles restoration-preservation laboratory of the ASTRA Museum takes care of the autochthonous and universal ethnographic objects, which are included in its collections. Beside this, the laboratory also performs specialty works for outside beneficiaries from our country and from abroad. Such a work of great proportions was the restoration of a painted silk flag, dating back to the end of the XVIIIth century, proceeding from Germany. The main restoration-preservation operations which have been applied were: cleaning (dust removing and local washing on an absorbent prop with the solution of Radix Saponaria and distilled water) and the consolidation (depending on the degradation state of the object, there have been used two consolidation techniques - the doubling with silk good and sewing oh the original fragments with Byzantine stitch, as well as the fastening on a prop with cellulose carboximetil solution). The flag has been protected between two translucent silk strata fastened with invisible sewing stitches. The actual restoration allows the temporary exhibiting of the flag hanging by the handle, but is preferably for the object to be kept in a storage room horizontally on a stiff prop.
