With the advent of the Internet, many museums, as traditional information providers, created virtual access to their galleries and collections. The "Franz Binder" Universal Ethnography Museum from Sibiu, department of the ASTRA National Museum Complex, can be visited on the Internet since 1996. lts valuable collections coming from al! over the world and its pioneer position in the Roman ian network ol ethnographical institutions as the unique museum of this kind in the country, recommend it as an ideal partner for collaborations. In this cultural context, online visibility is considered very important for its future development. The "Franz Binder" Museum improved the presentation online ol its heritage in 2011, with the publication of the online Selective Catalogue of an exceptional African collection that Franz Binder donated in 1862. At the address http://www.binder.muzeulastra.ro/catalogselectivbinderl the visitors can enjoy seeing and learning about a select ion of 200 outstanding pieces coming from Bhar al-Ghazal and.find more inlormation about Franz Binder life and travel in Alrica. Before the end of 2012, a first segment of a database of the "Franz Binder" Museum co/lections will be launched online. Given the importance of the museum 's Alrican collections (over 50% from the total number of objects that the museum holds), the database begins with objects coming from that continent. Information and images about 150 specţfic items, which are highly significant thanks to their ethnographical, documentary and historical meaning, will be found there. The visitors will have the possibility to consult entries that give information about: the geographic and ethnic origin of the objects (continent, country and/or cultural group); inventory number; category/classification (name of the object and function); age of the object; fie Id collector/donator. There is alsa an entry with a short description of every object presented.
