Conglomeratele cretacice de pe Pîrăul Oii

  • Subiect: The studied area is marked by the presence of two thrust nappes: the Hăsmaş Nappe, which is a gravitational slide nappe and the Bukovinian Nappe, which is a shear nappe. The Bukovinian Nappe has a very complex stratigraphy, with rocks originating from Upper Precambrian to Lower Cretaceous (Barremian-Albian). The Hăşmaş Nappe is restricted only to Mesozoic rocks (Kimmeridgian-Early Cretaceous). The Hăsmaş Nappe is overlapping the Bukovinian Nappe. For this reason, the upper one was strongly eroded, highlighting elements peculiar to an overthrust nappe. The youngest recorded deposits in the studied area are the Barnadu post-tectonic conglomerates, transgressing the both mentioned nappes. As a result of investigations and measurements that we made, we outlined a geological sketch at scale 1:20.000, underlining a new exposure of the post-tectonic conglomerates located in the middle Oii Creek area, a detail improving the actual geological maps of this region.
