  • Subiect: CRAFTSMEN FROM ZALAU AND THEIR PLACE IN THE LOCAL PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION STRUCTURES One of the most frequently met names in the XIXth century documents belonging to the tanners' guild is Lugosi Ferenc, master tanner among the foremost people of the guild. His accomplishing many functions in the hierarchy of the guild and in the administration of the city makes it illustrative for the sociopolitical history of Zalău to write about the place and the role of bis family, related to the Takács family from the same town. The options as to the importance of the guilds in the urban life and their involvement in all the activities connected to the social, political and cultural domains leave no trace of doubt: the associations of the craftsmen were leading all enterprises, they had street bodies, society bodies, etc. which took on all the aspects of the prosaical everyday life, but also the festivities, cultural acts, or the fundamental moments of one's life. The condition was to be part of one of the craftsmen communities, in order to benefit from help from the guild. The community spirit was comprised by the mentality of the citizens from Zalau in the Middle Ages as well as in the Modem times.
