Noi contribuţii la istoria economică şi socială a Sălajului medieval

  • Subiect: Some Aspects from the Social and Economic History of Sălaj in the Middle Age In the second half of the 18th century took place the organization phenomenon of the noble property on the basis of the intensive and concentrated agriculture that should satisfy the increasing produce exchange. This kind of house-hold required the rationalization of the private landlord household. The peasants owned plots of land which were spread out in disorder. The plots of the same serf household were placed at a distance between them. Among these serfs' plots there were plots that belonged either to the church or to a squire. There wasn't settled the possession of the meadows, hay fields, and forests. A great deal of the peasants' land and of the arable land, as well as of meadows, hay fields, and forests hadn't been parted between the families belonging to the community. The land was a common property. The firsts step on the new organization of the land was the delimitation of the boundaries. On the occasion of this delimitation that took place up to the revolution from 1848, there have been divided the serfs' properties from those of their landlords. The separation hasn't been easy to be realized. Sometimes there were missing boundaries and regarding the big communes the process was hard to be accomplished, and it needed a long time (tens of years). The separation of the land was left as a task for the noblemen and they acted in the serfs' detriment. The serfs received less extensive plots than that they should have and they were in the farthest places, and of the worst quality. The landlords attacked even the communities arable land, the meadows, hay fields, and forests, becau.se there weren't enough meadows the peasants were obliged to go with their cattle on the meadows of other villages and they have to work or to pay for this. The inn ship right has been restricted as well as that of butchery and the wine selling has been forbidden in the fairs. The restriction of the peasants' old rights and the increasing of the duties led to the poverty of the peasants and the ruin of their households. As a result, there has been registered a general state of dissatisfaction that generated conflicts between peasants and landlords. These conflicts have often led to true uprising like the one of 1820 from Năpradea.
