  • Subiect: Military Legislation and Fiscal Politics in the Time of John Sigismund Zapolya The second part of John Sigismund's reign was marked by the military and diplomatic dispute with the Habsburgs for the control of Partium. Thus, the Transylvanian principality was involved in a large-scale war with a superior military power, which Iasted more than a decade. Fighting this Iong war involved an unprecedented economic and military effort for the newly emerging state. The estates of the country were obliged to summon their armies on several occasions during this period, mainly because this war was regarded as a defensive one.
