Aniversarea centenarului execuţiei eroilor răscoalei de la 1784-1785 în cadrul mişcării naţionale româneşti din 1885

  • Subiect: THE COMMEMORATION OF THE HEROES' EXECUTION OF THE 1784-1785 UPRISING IN THE FRAME OF THE ROMANIAN NATIONAL MOVEMENT FROM 1885 Since 1884 there had passed 100 years from the uprising led by Horea, Cloşca and Crişan. The celebration planned by Romanian on November 2nd 1884 was absolutely forbidden by the Hungarian government. Thus the national leaders’ postponed the anniversary on February 28th 1885, the day of Horea and Cloşca execution through drawing on the wheel. The commemoration was to occur through official service for the dead, but these were also interdicted. Still the Transylvanian Orthodox and Greek-Catholic clergymen managed to celebrate requiems in a few places. Without any restrictions they also took place in Romania. Unfortunately in other places the official service for the dead were forbidden, the Hungarian gendarmes kicked the Romanians out of the churches. It was once more eloquent proof of Hungary's change into a police-state. This truly „requiem movement" has not been studied yet, although it belonged to the great national movement of the Transylvanian Romanians, either of those inside the borders of their country or of those who had taken refuge to Romania, ·where they rallied around the „Carpaţi" association.
