• Subiect: Melhisedec – the First Abbot of the Dlagopolskia Monastery („Negru-Vodă” in Câmpulung Muscel) Extensive activities of Prince Matei Basarab (1632-1654) as a benefactor include, among his most important achievements, the rebuilding of the Princely Court in Campulung (XIVth century) between 1635-1636 and its transformation into a monastery of monks. In 1638, the Prince appointed Melhisedec the Peloponnesian the first abbot of the monastery. The Princes and boyars’ charitable bequests, acquisition of new lands and hiring new hands provided a thriving economic base to the monastery. Cultural life of the period is characterized by the princely print shop from the Campulung Monastery where, under abbot Melhisedec care, will be published in September 1642 "Teachings for all days”, translated by the abbot from Greek into Romanian, an Antologhion written in Slavonic, on October 11th, 1642, and the Slavonic Psalter in 1650.
