Nobili şi ţărani din Chioar în mişcarea lui Sofronie (1759-1790)

  • Subiect: Nobles and Peasants from the Choir District During Sofronie’s Movement (1759-1790) A state of profound discontentment developed in the district of Choir, in the western Transylvania during the middle of the l 8'h century. This situation was caused by the introduction of a heavy taxation system, the extension of the suffering caused by the 7 years war, etc. The movement of initiated by the monk Sofronie as a protest against this situation took in the appearance of abandoning the Greek-catholic (Uniate) religion and crossing over to orthodoxy with the belief that the Romanians would receive the same privileges as the Orthodox Serbs through tradition. Due the intervention of the army and the conditioning of confirming nobility upon behaving to the Greek-catholic church nobles and, under their influence, slower went back towards the union with Rome.
