O veche ctitorie din "Moldovlahia" de peste Prut: Căpriana I (C. 1425-C. 1542)

  • Subiect: An Old Foundation from ”Moldovlahia” from Beyond the Prut River: Căpriana I (c. 1425 - c. 1542) Presentation / synthesis and illustration of the author’s own opinions, who participated at the historical and archaeological exploration from Căpriana Monastery (R. Moldova) beginning in the spring of 1993. There are presented both the geographical position (Fig. 2-3) and the configuration of the actual monastic site – the church of Petru Rareş Vv. /c.1542, having as patron the Holy Virgin, or Uspeniia v. Fig. 5 /, old houses with cellars /from the 16th century the earliest/ and a chapel / 1840 /, the Abbey /1862, today completely re-built /, St. George Church/ 1905 / and other buildings from the Western side (Fig. 4, 7-8).. The archaeological research began in 1993 (Fig. 6/1, 9-10.) revealed the presence of a cemetery not only around the old church, but also inside it (narthex and porch), and of a bell-tower, demolished in 1819- 21, when the church was modified following the Russian style. But the main discovery confirmed the old documentary sources (1420, 1429, 1470 and the 16th – the 18th century) which talks about the ”poiana lui Chiprian” and „mănăstirea de la obârşia Vişnivăţului” / or „de la Vişnivăţ”, having the same Chiprian as Superior. (v.n, 14): the solid foundations (Fig. 13) of a tryconc plan church / important is the continuous foundation from the lateral absis, v-n. 22, 28/, with porch, narthex, the mortuary chamber, nave, and altar (Fig. 12, 14/2). Contrary to some opinions (see bibl.), based mainly on tradition (already noticed in the 17th century) which affirm that it is the foundation of the great voivode Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfânt – in fact, and it is also almost proved from an archaeological viewpoint, it is a foundation of Chiprian and, certainly, it is a foundation of t the Lordly House from Suceava, through the person of the voievod Alexandru cel Bun /1399-1432 / and of his wife Marena (a native, v.n. 31), both of them represented in a miniature style on a church garment/ Epitrahilion, c.1427-31, with the special mention, in Greek, that the maritime area was owned, Parathalasia, Fif. 15). It is important to be mentioned an interesting family context: Stanciul, the son of the beneficiary from 1420, Oană Minister for Internal Affairs de Suceava, will marry Chiajna, the daughter of Alexandru Vv. And Marena (they will die in 1479), the fortune inherited by this couple was almost directly owned by Căpriana I, and then by another foundation of Petru Rareş Vv., Căpriana II (the first one dedicated as succursal of Neamţului Monastery, 1470, and the second one to that from Zograful-Athos, 1698…).
