Attempt of a Monographic outline The present article based on original records from archives evokes the life and activity of the militant patriot born in the Sălaj region. The introductive part contains biographical data about Paul A., the school years spent in Baia Mare and Beiuş, the theology college attended in Budapest and the philology college in Graz as well as his activity as a teacher at different high schools in Brăila, Bârlad, Focşani and Bacău. The letters emphasized on in the appendix of the present paper make possible the pointing out of the first moments of his activity as a translator at various periodicals as „Familia" and „Gazeta Transilvaniei" since his. college days. The most consistent part of the topographical essays on Paul A. shows his journalist activity as the editor at „Gazeta Transilvaniei" during 1901- 1906. Excerpts from feuilletons of the time analyzed and interpreted show hi-; efforts in order to contribute by his work to the prosperity of the Romanian p1·C'ss in Transylvania and, implicitly. of the native intellectual life. The documents: found in the archives of the Minister for Foreign Affairs make easy the reconstruction of Paul Augustin s activity in his capacity as a secretary at the Romanian Consulate in Budapest till Romania entered World War I. (1907-1916) after only two months spent as a chief editor of the officious of the National Romanian Party „Lupta" in Budapest. The final part of the study presents moments from the diplomatic activity of Paul A. as a vice consul, consul and then ministerial counsellor until his death in 1920. This monography will be enlarged and improved after the~ investigation of all existing documentary sources used up to the present.
