Descoperirea monetară de la Zalău, sec. XII-XIII

  • Subiect: The coin find of Zalău, 12th - 13th century The paper deals with two silver coins, issued, respectively at Villach by the bishop Otto von Meranien, and at Pettau by the bishop Eberhard II, probably part of a hoard discovered some 30-40 years ago and dispersed. The coins are so called friesacher Pfennige (see f.n. 4-6). These issues circulated in Central Europe, Hungary and Transylvania. In Hungary they were imitated by the king Andreas II (see f.n. 8). The hoard of Zalău belongs to the Transylvanian hoards containing friesachers, those of Nojorid, Sudurău, Ştei, Tomnatic (see f.n. 9). Key to plate: the two coins enlarged 2x.
