Vasile Pîrvan - Un adolescent la Bîrlad

  • Subiect: „In 2007 we comemorated 80 years since the death of the great archeologist Vasile Pârvan (1882-1927). This work is focused on the adolescence of Vasile Pârvan, which he spent in Bârlad. Here he went to grade school, under his father’s direction, who was a school master and also he graduated from the creditable „Gheorghe Roşca Codreanu” high-school, which nowadays is National College. The image and personality of Vasile Pârvan during his adolescence days was recomposed by the well known historian Alexandru Zub in his studies and also in some works (mentioned in the footnotes), where Alexandru Zub writes about the one who was to become a scholar. Vasile Pârvan was known as a remarkable student and this is demonstraded by his grade transcripts that I found at the State’s Archives in Vaslui city. I have included two of his grade transcripts in this work, too. Vasile Pârvan was a frail build, but this didn’t determin him from dedicating himself to study, which required a lot of energy. He always enjoyed his parents support, especially his mother’s. Therefore, he instituted two awards in her memory: one for „Codreanu” high-scool, and the other award for the University of Bucharest. Although he died when he was only 45 years old, he left us numerous archeological studies and articles, as well as great works: „Getica”(1926), „The origins of the Roman lifes at Danube’s Mouth”(1923), Epigraphical Contributions to the Dacian-Roman Christian History”(1911). He gradually climbed on top of the value ladder, starting as a university teacher, academician, initiator of immense archeological explorations, founded of some of the most famous magazines in the world such as „Ephemeris Dacoromana”, „Dacia”, and professor of Sorbona University.”
