Ioan Dragomir (1822-1912)

  • Subiect: Ioan Dragomir (1822-1912) The paper presents bibliographical data about the life and activity of Ioan Dragomir scholar and politician, leader of the Romanians in the revolution of 1848, whose personality has not been known very well. He was born in a Romanian noble family in Copalnic village (Mânastur, Maramureş county). He attended the secondary school by the Minorit Order in Baia Mare and studied theology and philosophy in the Theological Greek-Catholic Institute in Blaj. He took an active part in the 1848 revolution while he lived in Chioar region (in the northern part of the Salaj county). Then became archpriest at Ciocmani, where he fought for the cultural and political rights of the Romanians from this district.
