Mişcări de populaţie din Sudul şi Nordul Transilvaniei (1940-1944)

  • Subiect: Migration of the population from south and north of Transylvania 1940-1944 After the 30th August 1940, when the North of Transylvania was taken by the Hungarian inhabitants from the South of the province left, officially or illegally, for the given up territory, and many Romanians took refuge or were expelled by the Hungarian authorities in Romania. This process was rather intense in the first months after the acceptance of the Vienna dictate, but later its proportions were considerably diminished. The main reason why the Hungarian population left the territory after 1941, was to avoid the military service imposed by the Romanian state, but the Romanians coming from the North of Transylvania had been forced to adopt this solution, mainly, owing to the terror put on them by the Hungarian administration. A part of the Hungarians who left Romania legally or illegally were faced Weith serious material difficulties, which made them regret their decision and also determined some of them to return illegally to the deserted territory. The refugee Romanians remained in the place they took refuge until the liberation of the North of Transylvania.
