Imagini ale timpului trecut: Cîteva mănăstiri franciscane din judeţul Hunedoara

  • Subiect: The convent is a small unique world. Any monastery was a space in which arts and culture were developed. ln Transylvania and thereabouts the Franciscan friars were coming from Bosnia. Their purpose was to convert to Gatholic faith, the heretics and the Orthodox people from SouthEast of Europe. The Franciscan Friars (Ordo Fratrum Minorum) were created by Saint Francisc of Assisi in the Xlllth century. The motto and the main rules of conduct were poverty and humility. The general Catholic Monachism from Transylvania was represented through Franciscan friars. ln the XVlllt h century because of the conquest of Transylvania by the Habsburgs the Catholic convents were flourishing, taking back old functions. ln Hunedoara county the Franciscan churches and monasteries were founded in XV-XVlth century at Baia de Gris, Deva, Haţeg, Hunedoara, Orăştie. Some of them were ruined by the outbreak of fire, conflagrations or Turkish raids. I tried to describe the monasteries that flourished in baroque period as Baia de Griş, Deva and Orăştie. Baia de Griş-the records exist in draught. lt is possible that an outbreake of fire in XVlth century could be the cause of ruin. At the beginning of XVlllth century the bishop Ladislau Nadasdy (1710-1730), the Bulgarian Franciscan friars got there and took over the parish then, they restored gradually the building. The pulpit and the two side altars are made from wood and belong to baroque period. The original principal baroque sanctuary was replaced in 1860 with one that belongs to gothic style. The patron of the convent was the Holy Virgin. Deva - the records exist from the XVlth century, but the present-day convent is bound by the immigration of Bulgarian community in Transylvania around 1700. At Deva those people arrived with a help from general Stephen Steinville. They built the monastery between 1721-1735. The principal sanctuary, the Apostles statues of Peter and Paul, the side altars and the pulpit made from wood are from baroque and rococo period. The patron of the church is the Holy Virgin. Orăştie - the convent was built before. 1302 and also was a school that prepared lay brothers. ln XV and XVII, the monastery was ruined by Turkish raids. The Franciscan friars were arrived again in Orăştie in 1730. They rebuilt the old medieval convent between 1754-1780. Also between 1880-1881, the church was enlarged added it was add a tower. The patron of the church is the Saint Elizabeth of Hungary.
