Political regimes, economic crises, continuity and discontinuity in the economic modernisation of the peripheral regions of the Habsburg Monarchy in the second half of the nineteenth century. The case of Transylvania

  • Subiect: The second half of the l 9tli Century marks a clear evolution for the Habsburg Monarchy to modem economic growth, including its eastem provinces that were in a situation of obvious gap to the western ones. The neoabsolutist regime established in 1850 aimed a series of reforms at the economic level in order to achieve a narrowing of regional disparities in its eastem provinces. Assuming the modernization process, both from the center and locally, altered the economic physiognomy of Transylvanian province, but also have preserved several handicaps, some resulted from historical heritage, others because of inconsistencies in economic policies.
