- Subiect: On the History of the Rumanian Flag The Rumanian flag - with blue, yellow, red colours - appeared in the 19th century with the Rumanian national state. Its first mention is from 1834 when the sultan Mahmud II accepted that the flag of the Wallachian army to be tricolour. The flag of the Wallachian army became national flag of the Principality of Wallachia by the first decree of the revolutionary government of 14/26 of June 1848. The same year, by the decree No. 252 from 13/25 of July it was decided that the three colours were arranged vertically according the French model. Forbidden for a little time (1848-1849) the tricolour flag reappeared like a flag of the Wallachian army and from 1862 of the united army of the Romanian Principalities. Proclaimed as a national flag by the first Constitution of Romania (1/13 July 1866) the tricolour have the present-day configuration by the law of 5/17 May 1867.
