"Timpul nu e decît un fel de spaţiu" Herbert George Wells

  • Subiect: „Towards the end of lhe 19'h century. lhe question of lhe fourlh dimension of space was a subject of intense debates in the scientific groups and publications. The audacious minds, following an idea fonnulated in the previous century by d'Aiemben and Lagrange, believed that lhe founh dimension can be lhe Time. Wells was acquainted with lhis idea when he was a student al the Normal Scbool of Science in Londoc, and be pondered over the possibility to travel in time with a machine made with this pwpose - a conjectural premiere. In 1 888, he published The Chronic Argocauts, "a first sketch of The Time Machine", as he named it )ater. The novel, published in 1 895, was enthusiastically received by the readers and the literary critics. due to the boldness of the fantasy and the suggestive descriptions of lhe more and more distant fu ture visited by his hero. Some commentators consider that cenaics passages are anlicipaling the Einstein relativity. The great mathematician Kun GOdel, the philosophers Hans Reichenbach and Hilary Putnam, lhc physicist Frank Tipler, to mention only these names, have devised solutions for the effective realizatioc of the time travel. These solutions are. of course, beyond lhe possibilities of the present science and technics. But. as Jules Veme wrote sometime. "All lhat a man can imagine. olher men will be able to achieve".”
