Aşezarea geto-dacă de la Ştorobăneasa „Cimitir" (judeţul Teleorman)

  • Subiect: On two Strongholds of the Defensive System of the Lower Danube - Signaling and Hypotheses The opinions that constitute the object of my presentation concern two arees from the Roman defensive system, located on the left bank of the Lower Danube. Galaţi-Barboşi and Piua Petrii respectively. My attention was drawn on these areas by the epigraphic attestations - that will be mentioned in the following lines - as well as by the archaeological research that I have recently undertaken in one of the sites. The Galaţi-Barboşi area, as well as the small fort in the area near the Piua Petrii village (now abandoned), were considered bridgeheads of the forts at Dinogetia and Carslum respectively. Similar situations were frequent in the Roman period on the Middle and Lower Danube: Dierna (Orşova) - Transdierna (Tekija), Drobeta - Trans Drobeta or Pontes (Kostol), Marisca (Olteniţa?) - Transamerica (Tutrakan), Aliobrix (Orlovka) Noviodunum (Isaccea). These transdanubian strongholds were important in the lntr Roman defensive system, but the strategy they were part of was adopted as early as the Principate.
