Aspecte ale circulaţiei monetare în zona Craiovei din ultimele două decenii ale secolului al XVIII-lea şi până în primul sfert al secolului al XIX-lea reflectate în componenţa a patru tezaure monetare inedite

  • Subiect: Aspects of the Monetary Circulation in the Craiova Area – from the Last Two Decades of the 18th Century to the First Quarter of the 19th Century – Reflected in the Composition of Four Inedit Monetary Treasures In this study the author presents and analyses four monetary treasures bought by the city of Craiova, or discovered in this locality in 1950-1955, 1961, 1962 and 1973: 1. The treasure from Craiova – „Târgul de afară”. The monetary lot found in the collection of the Oltenia’s Museum is formed of 50 silver coins, 49 of which are included in the Ottoman Empire silver issue (47 coins) and in those of the city of Ragusa (2 ducats from 1768 and 1777) chronologically distributed between the third year of reign (1759/1760) of the sultan Mustafa III (1757-1774) and the 8th year of reign (1780/1781) of the sultan Abdülhamid I (1774-1789), and one triple-groschen from Riga, dated 1598. This treasure offers a better understanding of the monetary circulation in the towns of Wallachia in the 8th and the 9th decades of the 18th century. 2. The small monetary treasure of Craiovean discovered in Calea Brestii (three pieces of 100 Ottoman coins – yüzlük – and six pieces of 80 Ottoman coins – ikilik –, all of them emitted during the reign of the sultan Selim III), offer a better understanding about the monetary circulation at the end of the 18th century in the urban world, which was not very different of the rural one. 3. The treasure discovered in the neighborhood Gherceştii Noi, situated in the north of Craiova, shows, due to its unitary composition the economic situation of those hard times. 4. The treasure from “Plaiul Vulcăneşti” includes 628 Ottoman coins and 7 silver coins of various values from Hungary, Niederösterreich, Stiria, Silesia, Brandenburg Ansbach; small coins in its majority, issued between 1571 (Hungarian dinar from Maximilian I) and 1823/1824, representing the 17th year of reign of the sultan Mahmud II (1808-1839). The treasure offers a more exact image of the silver coins from Walachia after the revolution of Tudor Vladimirescu. An Austrian item of 12 Kreutzer from 1795 (nr. 632) represents a novelty for Oltenia.
