Consideraţii privind etapa mijlocie a primei vârste a fierului în Transilvania

  • Subiect: Consideration Concerning the Middle stage of the First Iron Age in Transylvania Cataloguing of Transylvanian discoveries belonging to this horizon (HaC), offers valuable dates concerning the specific features of the local communities. From this point of view data offered by the identified sites, less metallurgy of this horizon (that is not the subject of this paper), we can define two categories of habitat: on one side the fortified sites, where they perpetuated the ceramics of Gava tradition, on the other side sites with discoveries of Bessarabia type. The fortifications are disposed concentrically on the axis of Mureş valley, the main inhabited area Bessarabia (see map no. I), only that from Teleac, and possibly that of Tilişca offered discoveries belonging to the new inhabitants. ln 8 of the 35 settlements archaeologically investigated the local pottery was associated with that of Basarabi, fact which indicates spreading of the new ceramic fashion in local communities, even if this thing involved or didn’t, the contribution of a population. Meanwhile we find the archaeological research pointed to the large fortified sites and less to the rural settlements, references about those being extremely poor. As far as the chronology of the discoveries of Basarabi type is concerned, we mention the finding from Brnadea, district Mureş, and Gligoreşti, district Cluj, where were discovered two arrows of Scythian type. (PI.I.1) with specific material fact which indicates the survival of these horizon until the arrival of the Iranian group (beginning of VIIth century). Peaceful relations with the local communities are proved by the lack of fortifications from the sites with Basarabi type material, the favorite habitat area being terraces of river Mureş and its main affluent (33 cases, sec graphic 1). As a consequence, the local fortifications disposed in the area of Mureş lost its military importance or had peaceful relations with carriers of Basarabi culture, certified at Teleac for example. Survival in the parallel direction, of those two forms of material culture, is more than likely until the arrival of Scythians.
